Do I have to know how I want my cover to look?
Whatever input you have on potential cover designs will be invaluable, but our cover designers are experts in the craft and will happily help you with crucial design decisions.
Can’t I do this myself?
Cover design began with the big business that is publishing, and if publishers could have gotten away with using amateur cover designs then they would have done so long before digital publishing was created. An incredibly high level of quality is a must, even before concerns such as:
- Can the cover be resized without lessening quality?
- Does the cover advertise the most saleable qualities of your work?
- Is the cover file compatible with your chosen method of publication?
- Will the cover attract the right kind of reader?
- Is it in keeping with your author brand?
Experienced designers can ‘answer’ yes to these questions, while a relative or friend who’s proficient in Photoshop can’t. Of all the services we offer, cover design is probably the one that’s least advisable to approach with a DIY mentality.
Can I include my own images or text?
Your participation in the design process is encouraged, since your cover needs to accurately reflect your work and author brand. If you have any images or text that you’d like included, or an idea of how you want the cover to look, then these can be included in the final product. Just have your materials prepared to send at the beginning of the process.
What do I get with this book cover design service?
Our book cover design service includes two initial design concepts, and finished cover files compatible with all major avenues of publication.
What file type will my cover be?
Print covers are delivered as print-ready PDFs ready to upload to your printer of choice. Ebook covers are sent as high resolution (1600×2500 pixels) JPEGs. If you need any other specific sizes for different distributors, we will accommodate those requests.
Will I have problems using my cover with a publishing service or digital retailer?
Your cover will be provided ready to use by publishing services such as KDP and IngramSpark and our covers are compatible with all major online retailers. From file type to image sizing, you’ll receive an asset that’s ready to use immediately.
Will I have exclusive rights to my cover?
Once you’ve agreed that your cover is finished and the final files have been handed over, the cover is yours to do with as you please. There will be no further charges related to the cover, and no influence over how you use the cover going forward.
All images used on the cover are royalty-free and sourced from Shutterstock.com. The cost of your cover design includes the rights to use these images and is limited to a print-run of 250,000 units, or sales in the case of ebooks. For unlimited usage, there would be an additional fee of approximately $100 per image. For more information on the licensing of images, please visit http://www.shutterstock.com/licensing.mhtml. Should you wish to purchase the unlimited usage rights at the time of ordering, or at any point in future, please let us know.
How does the design process work?
You will be asked to fill out a detailed design questionnaire to give your designer a clear idea of the kind of cover that will work best with your book.
Once your designer has studied your questionnaire they’ll get in contact if they have any questions.
After 14 days, you’ll be provided with two design concepts. Depending on your feedback and thoughts, your designer will continue making changes to one of these design drafts, perfecting the image according to your specifications. Once you’re happy, the files are yours!
How long will my cover take?
Once you’ve submitted the design questionnaire and provided any materials you’d like used in your cover, it will take your designer 14 days to provide two initial design concepts. From this point the timeframe varies, as it depends how you feel about the concepts and how many rounds of revisions are needed to get it just right. Unless substantial changes are needed, it should take no longer than two-three weeks from submission to get the finished product, assuming the full three rounds of revisions and alterations.
Can I request changes once I see the cover?
The charge for cover design includes unlimited* rounds of revision to one of the initial cover drafts. Each revision will take into account any feedback you provide on each draft, making for an incredibly efficient and effective process.
Do I need a barcode?
For print book covers, we will generate a barcode from your ISBN.
Do I need any additional material for my print book cover?

- Printer specs/template.
- A unique ISBN number.
- Back cover text, including a blurb, endorsements, etc.

What happens once I'm happy with the cover?
